What is JT2Go?

JT2Go is a no-charge viewer for JT, the world's most widely used 3D visualization and interoperability format. JT2Go allows users to collaborate with their customers, suppliers, and partners who use JT as their primary format for design collaboration. It is designed to introduce individuals throughout the supply chain to the power of JT so they can experience the value that 800,000 Teamcenter Visualization users throughout the world enjoy.

Who can use JT2Go?

JT2Go is available to everyone.

How is JT2Go different than XpresReview?

JT2Go is specifically designed for viewing JT files with the added value of viewing CGM and TIF. XpresReview is an electronic design review solution that allows you to easily share multiple documents in a collaborative environment. Supported by NX and Solid Edge, XpresReview uses the PCF file format to easily combine 3D models and other associated documents into a single package, so participants in your review process have all the information they need to communicate effectively. XpresReview supports JT files but JT2Go does not read PCF files.

Do I need to be "Administrator" to install and run JT2Go?

No, in the latest release of JT2Go (6.0), there are no permission requirements. With previous versions (5.1.0.3a) you needed to be a Super User (Win 2000) or Standard User (XP) to install JT2Go. All user types can run JT2Go.

Can I have JT2Go on the same computer as other visualization products?

Yes, JT2Go was designed to work in harmony with all Teamcenter Visualization products. Make sure to exit JT2Go before installing any other products.

What if I need more functionality? How can I upgrade?

JT2Go is designed as an introduction to the powerful capabilities of JT and supports a natural upgrade to Teamcenter Visualization. It is ideal for supporting downstream PLM business processes with people who may not typically use 3D viewers. Teamcenter Visualization is a complete, scalable, suite of process-oriented visualization products that are tightly integrated into our Teamcenter PLM solutions. Learn more about Teamcenter.

Teamcenter Visualization offers high-performance process oriented solutions for Drawing Review & Analysis, Design Review, and Digital Mockup.

Can JT2Go read markups created by someone else?

No. JT2Go does not support markups. Learn more about Teamcenter Visualization.

The headline of the JT2Go window has "90 Days Remaining" in it. What does this mean?

Basic 3D measurement and basic 3D cross-sectioning are included in the no-charge download for a limited time to demonstrate a sample of the added capabilities available with Teamcenter Visualization. Following the 90 period, these features will be disabled but the rest of the JT2Go software will continue to work.

What if I want to keep this functionality? How can I upgrade?

You can join the JT Open Program (Learn more about joining JT Open Program). Members of the JT Open program are entitled to JT2Go – The JT Open Edition for their entire organization. JT2Go – The JT Open Edition includes Basic 3D Measurement and Basic Sectioning.

Or you can upgrade to Teamcenter Visualization Base which includes Basic 3D Measurement and Basic Sectioning as well as the ability to support exact measurement for JT files that contain optional precise surfaces. Teamcenter Visualization Base also includes robust 2D drawing viewing and analysis features.

You may also wish to upgrade to one of the other service levels and add-on modules from the Teamcenter Visualization suite of high-performance visualization tools.

What about plug-ins for Microsoft? How do these work?

JT2Go comes with plug-ins to enable monolithic JT files to be embedded directly inside a Microsoft document (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Once activated, anyone using JT2Go can view documents that have a JT file embedded in them. JT Documents are powerful for communicating with downstream processes. Samples of these documents are included in the JT2Go install (from the Start, Programs, JT Document Examples menu) and from the Downloads page.

Can I insert JT files into Microsoft Office documents using JT2Go?

Yes, as of the 5.1.0.3a version of JT2Go anyone with JT2Go and Microsoft Office can create JT Documents.

What is PLM XML?

PLM XML is an open format for facilitating product lifecycle interoperability using standard W3C XML schemas. PLM XML provides a lightweight, extensible and flexible mechanism for sharing high-content product data between PLM applications or over the Internet. Learn more about PLM XML.

For example, a JT2Go user may have access to a repository of JT files contributed by different authors of different CAD systems. PLM XML can act as a neutral "assembly" file to represent this multi-cad assembly. A PLM XML example is available from the Downloads page.

Can I use JT2Go with my Teamcenter PLM products?

No, JT2Go is not designed to integrate with Teamcenter. It is a personal viewing tool and cannot interact with (check-in/check-out) any of our PLM products. Teamcenter Visualization offers a complete range of solutions that are tightly integrated with Teamcenter.

There is a ~ next to the measurements I take. What does this mean?

The tilde character (~) indicates that the measurement is an approximation only. The JT format supports the inclusion of precise geometry representation (B-REP) when optionally selected during the output from the native CAD system. Support for precise measurement of the B-REP data is available in our Teamcenter Visualization Base, Standard, Professional, and Mockup products.

When I open an assembly in JT2Go, I don’t see anything.

The default view for assemblies is “All Off” to eliminate a large assembly from opening without user input. Simply check the box next to the assembly name in the product structure browser or expand the assembly and check only the components or sub-assemblies that you wish to view.

After we updated our Teamcenter Visualization software to 2005 SR1, our JT2Go stopped working.

If you installed the “Miscellaneous Product Features” and/or the “Office Integration” option of Teamcenter Visualization 2005 SR1, you installed a new version of JT2Go that enables the JT Document capabilities (embed JT files in MS Office documents). You may need to uninstall JT2Go and then re-install the Office Integration feature.

Do I need to upgrade my graphics card?

It may be necessary to up upgrade your graphic card driver which can be obtained from your vendor. Upgrading your graphic card itself will depend upon your performance needs.System Requirements

How can I create JT files of my own?
